Quality Care Through Equity and Action
Equity Statement
The DC Coalition on Long Term Care is committed to advancing equity in how care is delivered, accessed, and valued across the District; no matter what neighborhood or ward they live in. We recognize that structural racism, economic inequality, ageism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination have created deep disparities in long-term care services and outcomes. These inequities harm the very people—older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and the long-term care workforce—who most depend on fair and compassionate systems of support.
As a Coalition, we pledge to:
- Center the voices of those most affected, ensuring that consumers, family caregivers, and frontline workers guide our advocacy.
- Eliminate systemic barriers by pushing for policies that expand access, affordability, and quality across all neighborhoods and wards in the city.
- Promote dignity and respect for every person receiving or providing care, regardless of race, income, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or immigration status.
- Foster accountability in the long-term care system so equity is measurable, transparent, and sustained.
- Advocate for meaningful and coherent training pathways for residents to get the training they need for career mobility and quality service for consumers.
Equity is not a separate goal of our work in the DC Coalition on Long Term Care—it is the integral foundation of our mission. We believe that true quality in long-term care can only be achieved when it is equitable, inclusive, and just.
Our Coalition’s purpose is truly Quality Care Through Equity and Action; we stand together on this important credo.
