On Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018, the District of Columbia Board of Nursing assembled for its bimonthly meeting. The topics of discussion in the open session included revisions to Trained Medication Employee (TME) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) regulations.
The Board discussed the standards of training for TME Master Trainers, specifically in regards to minimum academic background (BSN), experience in teaching adults, and experience as a delegating nurse. The Board deliberated on whether TMEs should be allowed to administer insulin via a pre-filled syringe. Additionally, the proficiency with which TMEs must perform the administration, documentation, and observing of side effects following completion of their training was reviewed and decided upon. In regards to the LPN regulations, the Board examined the topic of licensure by examination of internationally educated applicants.
The next D.C Board of Nursing meeting is on November 7th, 2018- we encourage everyone to attend!
